Irvine, California - Code of Ordinances 

     TITLE 3 - COMMUNITY SERVICES  

          Division 4 - PARKS

               Sec. 3-4-113. - Airplanes and rockets.

"Flying of motor driven or fuel propelled airplanes, rockets or missiles of any type shall not be permitted within any public park except at such places designated for such use by the Community Services Department."

On the City of Irvine website (http://cityofirvine.org), the City of Irvine Police Department has posted the following document:

"The City of Irvine does not regulate the operation of drones in the City. Drones are permitted to be flown in City parks, recognizing it is the responsibility of every pilot to understand and abide by FAA regulations. "

This is a RC Drone. It is ok to fly in The Great Park

This is a RC Airplane.  It is not ok to fly in The Great Park.

Bottom line:

Don't fly an airplane (ie: Fixed wing flying machine) in The Great Park.  It is OK to fly a drone (ie: Quadcopter)
